Mount Pleasant artists have something ‘Sweet!’ to say
Artist on Fire celebrates the good things in life in its forth annual visual arts exhibit as part of the Piccolo Spoleto festival. “Sweet!” applauds childhood memories, true love, the mystery of youth, special moments and pays homage to the splendor of creation, the night sky, and heavenly spaces.
Participants this year include Mount Pleasant residents Amelia Whaley and Bethany Jaenicke. Whaley unveils her new series “The Pomegranate Seals” inspired by a childhood memory on Edisto Island. Each mixed media piece features a handmade seal of a pomegranate alongside an illumination.
Jaenicke teams up with photographer Jacquelyn Hiott creating a photographic series of children placed in otherworldly settings, featuring her hand-crafted props including a larger-than-life bird’s nest and a ship made of reeds with a beautiful purple sale.
Other featured artists include Alex Radin, Hilary Siber, Elianna Radin, Kimberly Krauk, Helena Rutan, Karen DeLoach and Jan Placko, Sara Radin, Melanie Spinks, Neriya Radin and Volcanoes in the Kitchen.
The exhibit is free and open to the public at Citadel Square Baptist Church, 328 Meeting Street, (off of the Henrietta Street entrance, on the thirdd floor), May 23-June 7.
The opening and artist reception will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will feature live music by Volcanoes in the Kitchen and catering by Sugar & Spice.
Exhibit hours are May 24-June 7, Monday - Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday.
