CARTA supporters gather for better transit conditions

  • Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Supporters of better public transit east of the Cooper will be gathering at the Collective Coffee Company in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday, May 22 to begin planning a better bus stop for the shopping center at the intersection of South Shelmore and the Frontage Road.

The meeting will have a drop-in format from 5 to 7 p.m., with focused discussion starting at 6 p.m.

The group visited Mount Pleasant Town Council last week, and they are concerned that so little progress has been made replacing the bus stop infrastructure which was destroyed during the road construction project.

The group hopes this effort will not only produce a better inbound stop for the No. 40 bus at Shelmore, but create a model for moving forward for the entire community.

Once the group gets past the permitting and planning issues, the group hopes actual construction will be smooth. They are confident they can get some beautiful and useful stops out in the East Cooper community.
