The Community Education Foundation of the Charleston Dance Institute (CDI) announces the availability of scholarship funds to offer formal dance education classes at the CDI studio in Mount Pleasant to children in Charleston County schools, who show innate dance ability and who would enjoy dance instruction but who lack the funds to pay for dance classes. Proof of financial need is required (school free-lunch certification will be considered adequate qualification) and an audition to gauge level of talent is required before an applicant can be considered.
CDI teachers have been performing artists in dance companies across the United States for many years so the level of teaching is of the highest professional level. Classes are offered weekly throughout the school year, from September to May. Class offerings include pre-ballet, ballet, pointe, jazz, modern/contemporary, variations and choreography composition. Class times are after school Monday through Friday, with some Saturday classes. As the student progresses, there are opportunities to join student performance companies.
An application form can be submitted online at www.charlestondanceinstitute.com or by simply calling 843-284-8151. Auditions will be held Sunday July 21 at the CDI located at 494 Wando Park Blvd. The students will participate in a dance class to assess their potential and natural abilities. Dancers will be asked to come dressed in dance attire or, in comfortable clothing in which they will be able to move.
