The South Carolina United-Mount Pleasant 98 Palmetto Boys soccer team captured its first Classic I state championship, April 27-28 in Columbia. The Palmetto Boys beat the Lexington 98 Select, 3-0, lost to the Summerville 98, 2-1, beat the SCU 98 Palmetto II (from Columbia), 1-0, and advanced to the championship match by the third tiebreaker of goals allowed. In the championship match, the Palmetto Boys continued their strong defensive effort and defeated the CFC 98 Boys from Spartanburg, 3-0, to win the title. The SCU/MP 98 Palmetto have extended their season and will represent South Carolina at the Region 3 (Southeast) Presidents Medal Cup in Decatur, Ala., June 5-9.
