Citadel will hold camp for young writers

  • Friday, May 31, 2013

The Lowcountry Writing Project’s Young Writers Camp is a weeklong day camp at The Citadel, June 17-21, 8:30-noon.

The camp is accepting applications for three groups: students who have completed grades three and four, those who have completed grades five and six and those who have completed grades seven and eight.

Each day, certified teachers will challenge young writers to find reasons to write, to shape their ideas and experiences into meaningful written communication and to write for specific audiences.

Based on a Writers’ Workshop model, the camp will incorporate mini-lessons on specific content and editing strategies, time for drafting and revising, peer response, teacher conferencing and publication.

Ultimately the Young Writers Camp will engage students in the writing process and help them discover their own style, voice, and potential.
