Gamma Xi Omega host EYL closing program
On Saturday, May 18, Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held their Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) graduation and closing program at the sorority building in downtown Charleston.
Emerging Young Leaders is one of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s initiatives under the Global Leadership Through Timeless Service program.
Gamma Xi Omega fully implements Initiative I, EYL, by impacting the lives of girls in grades six through eight by providing leadership development, civic engagement, enhanced academic preparation, and character building. The increasing demands of the 21st century mandate our youth to be better leaders at a younger age making smart choices with positive consequences.
There were 28 young ladies who participated in Gamma Xi Omega’s EYL program this year. The parents and families of the EYL participants attended the closing program to witness their progress over the past year. “Showcasing our talents” was the theme of the afternoon, and the EYL participants entertained the audience through praise dances, poems, and various musical selections.
The Divine Strength African-American Chamber Ensemble was the guest performing group during this event.
