Brad Pitner, owner of The Coastal Cupboard, announces that the store raised $3,190 for local charity, “Feed the Need” during the semi annual charity knife sharpening event held Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2. The donation will provide 2,500 people with warm meals.
For just $1 per knife, guests got their straight-edged knives professionally sharpened where all proceeds benefited “Feed The Need.” In addition to sharpening 3,190 knives, the weekend event also featured gourmet food samples, Nespresso demos and samples and a charity raffle to win culinary prizes.
“We are so grateful for the response we had. This event will provide over 2,500 meals to those in need, so again, thank you for coming out and making this event a success. ” said Pitner.
Feed The Need was created to eliminate some of the economic burden that area soup kitchens and shelters are facing in today’s economic environment. Fifty-two Charleston area restaurants rallied together and each committed to one day of food service, 52 weeks per year, at four local nonprofits — Tricounty Family Ministries, East Cooper Meals on Wheels, Crisis Ministries and Neighborhood House. The goal is to serve 500 meals per week to those that are in need.
President of Feed the Need and general manager of the Charleston Grill, Mickey Bakst said, “Being as my entire kitchen is stocked with appliances from The Coastal Cupboard I am absolutely thrilled to have Feed the Need be the recipient of this great event. On behalf of all of those who will benefit from Coastal Cupboards generosity I say thank you.”
