During her time at Wando, Gibbs Wiksell volunteered for the Medical University of South Carolina’s Children’s Hospital, Buddy Olympics, Race for the Cure and summer mission trips. She was also the co-vice president of the National Honor Society and the recipient of Comcast’s “Leaders & Achievers” Award. In her application essay, Wiksell said “Through all my volunteer experience, I have found that there is so much joy in serving others…Serving in my community has made me a more humble, selfless person because I truly understand how blessed I have been.” Wiksell graduates with a 4.835 GPA and plans to attend Clemson University as a Nursing Major.
Also a Wando Student, Claire Bogdan volunteered as a “Music Mentor” and served as the drum major for the Wando Band. She was awarded Wando’s “Most Outstanding Music Student” three times and received the highest chair position with Honor Orchestra of America. In her application essay, Bogdan said “Serving others through my passion of music is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I want to teach others what music has taught me – the person that you are is more important than the musician you become.” Claire graduates with a 4.970 GPA and plans to study Music Education at the University of South Carolina.
Pain Specialists of Charleston’s annual “Giving BACK” scholarship was open to high school seniors across the Lowcountry including both public and private school systems. Wiksell and Bogdan were two of more than 70 deserving scholarship applicants.”
