News on the Ravenel Bridge incident

  • Monday, June 24, 2013

David Lee Manning of 8104 Brookstone Way in Summerville parked his vehicle on the southbound lanes of the Ravenel Bridge and stepped across the lane barrier toward the water and was threatening suicide as he walked back and forth on the bridge ledge. The 6:51 a.m. incident led police to close two of the lanes of traffic as officers tried to talk Manning into coming back across the barrier to safety, according to Mount Pleasant Police Department spokesman Maj. Stan Gragg.

At approximately 11:45 all lanes of the bridge were secure with traffic being diverted. Gragg said that after several tense moments Manning was taken into Emergency Protective Custody at 12:00. Manning, 46, was transported to MUSC for treatment.
