Wednesday evening Mount Pleasant Police Officers responded to an armed robbery in progress call at the Kangaroo Convenience Store located at 2846 Highway 17 North. Upon arrival one suspect was taken into custody, according to Mount Pleasant Police Department spokesman Maj. Stan Gragg.

Gragg announced this morning that the second suspect has also been arrested.

He said the United States Marshals arrested Markel Jovan Wright in the area of 206 Hiddenway in Huger. He was taken into custody without incident and is being charged with the following: Armed Robbery of the Kangaroo at 2846 Hwy 17N, Armed Robbery of the Kangaroo at 4020 Bessemer Road, 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a Violent Crime, and Attempted Murder for shooting at the clerk at the Kangaroo at 2846 Hwy 17N.

Wright was lodged in the Charleston County Jail and will have a bond hearing today at 2 p.m.

Deion Watson was likewise charged with an additional count of Armed Robbery for his participation in the Robbery of the Kangaroo at Bessemer Road.

Through investigation it was learned two black males entered the business with shirts covering their faces and presented a firearm to the clerk and proceeded to rob the business of an undisclosed amount of money and as they were leaving a shot was fired, the Mount Pleasant police Department said in a prepared statement.

A passerby observed what was occurring and brandished his own weapon and, as the suspects left the store, he challenged them at gunpoint; one of the suspects was able to escape while the other remained on scene, according to Gragg.
