Charleston Animal Society sets state record for adoptions in a single day

  • Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Charleston Animal Society’s largest adoption campaign of the year got off to a resounding start last Wednesday, resulting in 204 adoptions - a state record.

Going into the adoption drive, the shelter was facing a crisis, with more than 800 animals in its system.

As a means of alleviating these overwhelming numbers, Charleston Animal Society began a five-day, fee-waived adoption promotion on Wednesday.

With financial assistance from PetSmart Charities, the organization set a goal of 300 adoptions during the drive, which ran through Sunday, June 30.

Despite last week’s remarkable success, Charleston Animal Society is not about to put on the brakes.

The summer months are always far and away their busiest, and they know they will be in what amounts to a crisis mode until fall.

They have seen an incredible surge in the number or kittens coming into our system, and know that will continue to be the case for the next few months.
