Tiny the Peanut Man, Charleston’s local peanut seller, dons the Red Shoes for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston’s 30th birthday campaign: Wear Red Shoes.Com
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston (RMHCC) was built almost 30 years ago as a home away from home for families of seriously ill children in area hospitals. What started as a 12 bedroom house has grown into 27 bedrooms, seven of which are for children who have received transplants. The house is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
Part of the year-long campaign is to display 12 different local celebrities, wearing Ronald’s Big Red Shoes, on billboards around the Charleston area. The fifth billboard has launched and portrays Tony the Peanut Man in the red shoes. Tony models the shoes following supporters like Mayor Joe Riley, Bill Walsh, Brett Gardner and Darius Rucker. The billboard is located on Ashley Phosphate Road, 0.2 miles off I-26 West.
RMHCC is trafficking all interest to the website www.wearredshoes.com. There you can find out all about wearing red shoes, donating, volunteering and ways to help raise money for the house. The RMHCC would like to see the entire community “in red shoes.”
You can even have a chance to see yourself on a billboard. Send in a picture of yourself, family or friends all in red shoes to firstname.lastname@example.org for a chance to win. The winner will be decided on Facebook with the most “likes.” Become a friend of RMHCC on Facebook at www.facebook.com/rmhcharleston.
To get involved- check out the website www.wearredshoes.com. Then put on your own red shoes, lace them up and put your best (big, red) foot forward and join RMHCC in going forward to the next 30 years. You will discover that wearing red shoes makes you smile, inside and out.
