Is your computer information secure? How can you be sure? These questions will be addressed in “Computer Security 101”, a 2- part class being offered by the SC Tech Academy of the Coastal Community Foundation, starting Wednesday, July 17.
The recent hacking of taxpayer records at the South Carolina Department of Revenue was a wake-up call for both nonprofit organizations and private individuals alike about the vulnerability of online information. The class will focus upon the knowledge required to recognize threats to your most valuable asset - donor, organizational, and personal information – and the tools to help keep them secure.
Presented by Bob Hooper, owner of Rent A Bob, a local information technologies company that specializes in security issues including virus repair, the class will cover topics including: performing a basic security inventory, recognizing and addressing threats such as spyware, malware and viruses, and using the free and low-cost tools provided to take action on existing security problems and help prevent future ones. Participants will be given practical assignments to complete between sessions, which will provide the best opportunity for maximizing learning while directly benefiting their organization.
The two-part class will be held on Wednesday July 17 & 24 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at 635 Rutledge Ave, Suite 201, in Charleston. Limited to 10 students to maximize learning, the class is open to nonprofit staff, board members and volunteers, as well as interested individuals. The fee is $49.
