The Snowden Community Civic Association (SCCA) presents its inaugural “Heritage Day Festival” on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the SCCA grounds located at 485 William Ladson Road.

The celebration of family, community and rich African American Heritage is the central theme of this event. Fun and family are emphasized throughout the festival. Local and regional vendors and artisans will be on hand with a wide variety of goods, foods and services including art, handmade jewelry, sweet grass baskets, clothing, handmade African dolls, books, beauty products and health and wellness items.

A full day of entertainment includes gospel singers, praise dancers and spoken word and featured performances by Brother Curtis Lampkin with his West African “Griot instrument,” the “Kora”; soulful neo soul jazz singer Sister Trane N’Chel and the Wose African Dance Company of Charleston. A very special guest Sister Fanta Turay and her West African Dance Company, “RAKABA” will perform.

There will be a Jump Castle and water slide for the children’s enjoyment. Bring your chairs and umbrellas and get ready for a great time at the Heritage Day Festival.
