The USS Yorktown, which is a staple of American military pride, upped the ante this past Friday afternoon when the 246th Army Band performed on the Patriots Point ship. A crowd of military veterans, families and visitors gathered to watch one of the installments of the South Carolina Army National Guard Summer Concert Series.
“Listening to patriotic songs performed by those who served our country is an honor,” Patriots Point executive director Mac Burdette said in a news release before the concert.
“Add in the location of the USS Yorktown, and there's no doubt the American pride will be alive and well.”
The 246th Army Band was created in 1939 and has been requested to perform at numerous events, including the state's gubernatorial inaugurations and Senator Strom Thurmond's funeral.
