November election could bring big changes to Isle of Palms City Council

  • Tuesday, July 23, 2013

There could be big changes to the Isle of Palms City Council in November when five members’ terms expire. Mayor Dick Cronin and councilmembers Marty Bettelli, Doug Thomas, Barbara Bergwerf and Sandy Stone can choose to let their terms end or campaign for re-election.

Cronin and Bettelli both told the Moultrie News this past week they were both seeking re-election. Thomas said he is currently undecided on a potential run. Bergwerf also said she is undecided, adding, “I will make that decision the middle of August.”

Stone did not respond to a request for comment. There are nine total Isle of Palms city council seats, including mayor.

All the people up for re-election have served since 2010. These are not official announcements, though, because candidates must return their petitions to run by Aug. 22. Petitions first become available for pick up on Aug. 9, according to Isle of Palms city clerk Marie Copeland.
