Lowcountry Local First (LLF), a nonprofit dedicated to growing Charleston’s local living economy, and the South Carolina Film Council, a professional association that advocates for the local film and television industry, today announced a workshop designed to help local businesses and entrepreneurs learn how to serve the fast-growing South Carolina entertainment industry.
The workshop will take place on July 25 from 3-6 p.m. at Studio Charleston, South Carolina’s largest stage rental and production facility.
“Film and television offer a wonderful opportunity for local realtors, stylists, artisans and retailers,” said LLF executive director Jamee Haley. “Building better relationships between Lowcountry businesses and the studios and production companies that need them will not only boost sales but also attract more film and television projects to the region.”
The event, part of LLF’s GOODBusiness economic development series, will teach local business leaders about the film industry and its needs and offer them the opportunity to be listed on the SC Film Council vendor list. The workshop will be led by key individuals experienced in all of the local purchasing for a film from construction and set decoration to props, wardrobe, catering, transportation and more. Panelists include: Dana Campbell, Emmy Award winning Costume Designer; Warren Ostergard, producer and president of Vitamin A Films; Gavin McCulley, President of the SC Film Council; Steve Yetmen, location manager at ABC Studios; and Chris Fisher of Fisher Recycling who currently works with “Army Wives.”
“The ability for the local business community to both understand and meet the needs of a fast-paced film production is critical in a producer’s decision as to where we make our movie,” said featured speaker Warren Ostergard, producer and president of Vitamin A Films, who will be on hand to discuss the business of filmmaking and it’s future in South Carolina.
“We’re excited to partner with Lowcountry Local First and share our resources with such an important audience,” said Gavin McCulley, chairman of the council. “Professional film and television production requires so much more than actors and cameras. We want to help Lowcountry businesses fill those needs and add to the momentum we’re already experiencing as a premiere destination for feature productions.”
