Dig into summer with great books at the Mount Pleasant Regional Library. PHOTO PROVIDED

Don’t worry. It’s not too late for your kids - or grandkids - to Dig into Reading this summer. Just stop by your local library and pick up a reading log. Children (11 and under) have until Aug. 10 to read 10 books and then bring their logs back to the library for cool prizes, like a South Carolina Summer Reading Medal, a Summer Reading Certificate of Participation, a free yogurt treat from Sweet CeCe’s and a “Celebrate Summer Reading with the RiverDogs” ticket voucher for the Aug. 11 game. Kids who turn in their logs by July 31 will also receive an entry into our branch’s grand prize drawing.

How else can kids Dig into Reading?

Visit the library, check out books and fill out an entry form for our weekly raffle. We’ve still got great prizes left. Until July 31, kids can also fill out an entry form for our bonus monthly raffle for a chance to win a behind-the-scenes tour at The Joe baseball stadium.

What should they read?

Kids can read about whatever interests them – the important thing is to keep them reading over the summer. Children’s librarians at Mount Pleasant Regional can recommend some great books, like “Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site” by Sherri Duskey Rinker (for preschoolers), “Chu’s Day” by Neil Gaiman (for grades K-1), “Fifty Cents and a Dream: Young Booker T. Washington” by Jabari Asim (for grades 2-3) and “Floors” by Patrick Carman (for grades 4-5).

If you’re going mad from being home with those little darlings (or grand-darlings), bring them to the library and attend a fun summer reading library program, where kids (11 and under) might win a door prize.
