Notre Dame alumni raise awareness of rare disease

  • Friday, July 26, 2013

The Notre Dame Alumni Club of Charleston is sponsoring three events July 26-28 to raise awareness of a rare neurodegenerative disease, Nieman-Pick Type C, that took the lives of three of Coach Ara Parseghian’s grandchildren.

In support of the medical research foundation that has been founded by Coach Parseghian, Dean Greg Crawford of the Notre Dame College of Science has been riding his bike across the U.S. for the third consecutive year.

The club’s three events are Friday, July 26 at the Riverdog’s game, a 10K bike ride at Dunleavy’s on Sullivan’s Island at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27 and then at the Charleston Battery game at Blackbaud Stadium that evening.

Dean Crawford will be at all three events to accept donations and provide information about this fatal disease and the fight to finding a cure.
