Maybe dogs do have a built in GPS

A dog, specializing in escape artistry also proved he had a built in GPS, allowing her to find her way home.

Maggie the dog miraculously returned home this weekend after her owner Shelley Scruggs thought she was gone for good.

Scruggs took her Labradoodle to a local groomer. When the canine became spooked, she jumped the fence and took off.

Scruggs and the groomer turned to social media for help. Her husband Mark and their two girls, Emily 13 and Abigail, 10, were also frantically looking.

The dog was spotted at Hampton Pointe Apartments behind Bojangles on Highway 17.

Scruggs looked for an hour with no luck and a friend brought her a dog bed and food to leave where she was last seen. “I even left my shirt there,” she said.

“We planned to meet back there at 5:15 Friday morning to try again.

“I had gotten up and opened our garage door to put my bike in our convertible and decided to grab some sausage patties to bring.

“I walked in the house, leaving the door open, and as I was heating them she comes running into the kitchen,” said Scruggs.

“It was insane. Even more amazing is that we live in old Shemwood behind Christ our King...so it’s a miracle she found her way because she was lost at the groomer on Bowman Road so there would have been no trail.”

Scruggs said it was a roller coaster five days. “Trying to look at the silver lining of all this, it is a story on the goodness of mankind and an example of how it takes a village. The people of Mount Pleasant have been so wonderful.”

Scruggs added that when she was putting signs up at the farmer’s market many people had already heard about her missing dog.

“There was also the drama of Wednesday night when she was spotted between Hungryneck Boulevard and Highway 17 by Venning Road and we dredged through the brush,” she said. Everyone in that area was kind and also tried to help. Honestly I think she was freaking out with many unknown people yelling her name,” she said.

Maggie is now safely home and the Scruggs fmaily coulnd’t be happier.
