Joe Bowers has announced his candidacy for mayor of Awendaw. “With the start of the filing period still more than 30 days out, it is truly inspiring to see the momentum for our campaign building daily,” he said in a statement regarding key endorsements he has received.
“I am running for mayor because I believe Awendaw deserves a future, both certain and prosperous, and we the people working together we will make that hope a reality.”
Bowers is a native of Awendaw. His family has lived and owned property in the area for many years. He is the oldest son of Awendaw District Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Bo Bowers and Betty Kessler Bowers. He attended Bishop England High School, Trident Technical College and currently attends Charleston Southern University. Bowers attends the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist where he has been very active in serving.

• Blue Crab Festival Committee
• W.H. Alston Library Committee (Chairman)
• 20th Anniversary Committee
• Town Hall Taskforce Committee
• Bulls Bay Nature Festival
Bowers ran an unsuccessful bid for town council in 2011 as a write-in and garnered more than 230 votes.
