Ballpark Festival of Beers on deck for Aug. 17
The Joe and the annual Ballpark Festival of Beers have been synonymous with Lowcountry fun for more than a decade. The festival, presented by Piggly Wiggly, will continue to offer some of the finest beers on earth while also capturing the enthusiasm for local food trucks.
Attendees can sample more than 100 varieties of beer including American and international ales, stouts, lagers, pilsners and specialty brews to quench the taste buds of every die-hard beer enthusiast on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park. The event is rain or shine.
The first 2,500 people through the gates receive a commemorative glass which includes tickets, each good for a sample of their favorite beers.
Live music by the Blue Plantation Band will kick off the night. Blue Plantation Band is an acoustic string band with a diverse variety of authentic musical styles including bluegrass, Irish, folk, country, swing and jazz. Concluding the evening will be Weigh Station, a local Southern Rock band with elements of country, soul and funk.
Q104.5 will host a corn hole tournament with a giant corn hole tentacle tossing finale. Let’s just say, you may want to bring your rubber gloves. The winners will receive a chartered fishing trip from Charleston-Mount Pleasant Inshore Charters.
Local Since Forever” is Piggly Wiggly’s current advertising theme. The chain has been catering to the Lowcountry and outlying regions for decades, helping the area establish and create its neighborhood cuisines.
The Joe will also have an array of delicious food available to soak up the suds which are sure to satisfy the palates of each and every fan. Food trucks will provide a variety of delicacies and the list of trucks include Geechee Island, Roti Rolls, Tokyo Crepes and Dulce Sweet Tea and Treats.
“In an on-going effort to promote responsible drinking, a designated driver wristband for $15 will be available for purchase at the stadium box office, Aug. 17 only. Green Taxi and Co-Pilot Designated Drivers will also be on site,” said special events director Melissa Azevado.
The Ballpark Festival of Beers is a 21-and-over event. Pets, kids, babies in strollers, and anyone under the age of 21 will not be allowed into the facility. Advanced tickets are $25 at the participating Piggly Wiggly locations or $30 at the RiverDogs Box Office or on-line at www.rileyparkevents.com or www.riverdogs.com.
