Grow your career as a professional pet stylist

  • Friday, August 9, 2013

Pet owners spend more than $50 billion annually keeping their pets healthy and well-fed, so the demand for skilled pet stylists is high.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says employment of pet stylist workers is expected to grow 23 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations.

Learn skills to open your own pet salon or work for a salon wherever you live. This course includes classroom and hands-on training. Topics include:

• American Kennel Club breeds

• Canine anatomy and First Aid

• Brushing, combing and cutting nails

• Clipping, bathing and drying

• Basic trims and finishing techniques

• Handling techniques

The Professional Pet Stylist course meets 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Aug. 19-Nov. 27, at TTC’s Mount Pleasant Campus.

The cost is $6,499, which includes a tool kit, textbooks and access to online materials.
