Online gallery gets word out about area artists

  • Thursday, August 15, 2013

CharlestonArtShop.com is a new online art gallery that provides local artists an affordable platform to showcase and sell their artwork. The website was started and is run by a local Mount Pleasant couple, website developer Derek McKee and artist Rebecca Hinson.

Artists need to gain exposure and connect to customers. Few, especially those just starting out, have an opportunity to exhibit their artwork in a gallery or can afford a website. Many are quick to admit they’d rather not deal with marketing, advertising, and related business activities; Artists simply want to create art. CharlestonArtShop.com is a grassroots response to these artists’ needs.

Any artist with their primary residence in South Carolina may apply for a membership. Artist members receive a personalized artist profile webpage to list their bio, photo, links and other information. They can create, edit and manage their own listings using the built-in artwork listing manager. All members benefit from CharlestonArtShop.com’s digital and print advertising campaigns and beneficial memberships with other local organizations that help support their mission. CharlestonArtShop.com does not retain any exclusive right to sell artwork. There are no monthly subscription fees. A 20 percent commission is charged on all sales.

Customers may browse the artwork listings by artist as listed in the artist index, by artwork category, or by using the search form. When an order is placed, CharlestonArtShop.com notifies the artist(s) and coordinates with them to expedite processing. Multiple shipping options are available, including an “arrange for pickup” option for local orders.
