Family Services celebrates 125th anniversary

  • Saturday, August 17, 2013

From Charleston’s historic Broad Street in 1888 to their North Charleston office in 2013, Family Services (FSI) has maintained their goal of financial stability. Even with time and socio-economic changes, the mission has remained - to empower individuals and families to become financially self-sustaining.

To celebrate, the organization held a community day at the Charleston RiverDogs last Friday.

“We are thrilled to use a Charleston staple to commemorate our many years of service,” CEO David Geer said. Geer will threw out the first pitch Friday evening.

FSI passed out information at the gate entrances, and the first 1,000 fans received a fan from the organization to help them celebrate and to stay cool in the hot August sun.

The local nonprofit organization provides a variety of programs such as homebuyer education and advising, financial coaching, foreclosure prevention assistance, credit improvement, debt management, financial management and rental assistance. Those interested in learning about FSI’s current programs and upcoming changes, specifically about how the organization plans to break the cycle of poverty in Charleston’s youth, should email questions to Jenna Johnson at jjohnson@fsisc.org.

Family Services has remained one of the leading human service nonprofit organizations by providing professional financial, housing, and health counseling services to residents and businesses of South Carolina for 125 years. FSI has successfully withstood the test of time and socio-economic changes by providing quality advocacy, counseling and education services to individuals and families.
