Mount Pleasant Town Council member Ken Glasson has announced he will run for the office of Mount Pleasant mayor. He joins council member Linda Page and former council member Joe Bustos in their bids for the seat.

Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails has said he will not seek re-election.

“Mount Pleasant needs real leadership to grow the economy, provide low property taxes, maintain the town’s charm, and strengthen our community,” said Glasson. “As a job-creating CEO who has worked on complicated issues within our nation’s military during combat missions and as a leader on our Town Council, I am confident I can help accomplish those goals as our next Mayor.”

Glasson was elected to town council in September 2006. He currently serves as chairman of the bids and purchases and the fire committees and as a member of the finance and transportation committees of council.

“My record on council is one of proven leadership, lower taxes, and improvement of the town’s bond rating,” Glasson added. “As Mayor, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our seniors and families can continue to live in a great community that keeps taxes low.”

Glasson is a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel with 31 years of service. His service was as an infantry officer, a reconnaissance marine and an intelligence officer. His war time service includes time in the Persian Gulf, Kosovo and the Global War on Terror. He helps to coordinate the local Marine Toys for Tots program with Rob Fowler at WCBD Channel 2, raising toys for children in the Lowcountry. Glasson is a member of the Church at Life Park and coaches football, soccer and lacrosse for the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department.

Glasson is a small business owner and has earned a Baccalaureate and Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). He is the parent of two children. Brittany is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and Thomas is a ninth grader at Wando High School.
