The Junior League of Charleston announces its partnership with seven local non-profits for the 2013-14 year. Members will provide continued volunteer and financial support working with the following organizations: Fields to Families, Florence Crittenton Programs, Lowcountry Food Bank and Lowcountry Orphan Relief. The league is also excited about developing new relationships working on community projects with Communities in Schools, MUSC Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs and Pet Helpers.
“All of our community partners’ missions impact the Junior League of Charleston’s focus areas of hunger and homelessness, both with proactive and reactive solutions,” said JLC president Emmie Hershey. “The Junior League of Charleston not only trains women to lead, but even after 90 years, we continue to make an impact in our community through the effective actions of our volunteers.”
The League’s elected leadership for the 2013-14 year is as follows: president - Emmie Hershey; president elect - Julie Daniels; recording secretary - Kelly Nix; Treasurer - Elaine Blaisdell-Taylor; assistant treasurer - Elizabeth Bynum; director of communications - Stacey Borders; director of community - Rachael Lewis; director of fundraising - Heather Crosby-Bedenbaugh; director of membership - Alisa Brooks; director of nominating - Liz Slade; director of strategic planning - Beth Bailey; director of training - Lola McDonald; sustainer advisor - Amy Jenkins.
During the 2012-13 League year, the members of the JLC volunteered more than 3,200 hours, an investment worth $56,000 in the Lowcountry. Currently, total membership is about 1,000.
