Isle of Palms residents have two choices for the city’s mayoral position in the November election, and they’ll choose between familiar faces.
Dick Cronin, current mayor, and Ryan Buckhannon, current mayor pro tem, are both campaigning for the job. They were the only people to submit petitions to the city office, according to Isle of Palms city clerk Marie Copeland.
Candidates could pick up petitions at noon on Aug. 9 and had until Aug. 22 to return them. There were four city council positions up for grabs. Incumbents Barbara Bergwerf and Marty Bettelli both returned petitions by the deadline, as well as Sandy Ferencz and Patrick Harrington.
Unless a write-in candidate(s) challenges, those four will become councilmembers without competition. The same is true for the Isle of Palms Water and Sewer Commission, which Curtis Helfrich and Dana Love were the only two to submit petitions.
