Plenty of activity at county parks in September

The month of September will bring plenty of special events at Charleston County parks as fall returns to the Lowcountry. The following events will take place at the parks:

Shaggin’ on the Cooper with the Coastal Breeze Band

Saturday, Sept. 7, 7–11 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Pier

Spend an evening dancing on the scenic Mount Pleasant Pier to live music performed by Coastal Breeze Band. Beverages will be available for purchase on site. Only 800 tickets will be sold for this event. Advance purchase is recommended. Call 843-795-4386 for more information. Age: 3 and up. Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount/$10 on site if still available.

Dog Day Afternoon

Sunday, Sept. 8, noon–5 p.m.

Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark

Who let the dogs out? Waterpark season is over, but on this special day, dogs are allowed into Whirlin’ Waters. Large dogs can cool down in the wave pool and smaller dogs can splash in the kiddie pool area to beat the heat. These areas will be open for dogs only; owners will not be allowed in the water. Concessions will be available for purchase. Proof of your dog’s current vaccinations required for entry into the event. Tickets are limited; advance purchase is recommended. Call 843-795-4386 for more information. A registered and paid chaperone is required for ages 17 and under. Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount and $10 on-site (if available).

Pups, Yups and Food Trucks

Thursday, Sept. 12, 5-8 p.m.

Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park

It’s a party in the park with your dog. You and your pup are invited to join park staff after work for live music, beverages, and food trucks. Live music will be provided by Dave Landeo. Food trucks scheduled to participate include The Foodie Truck and Charleston Festival Foods. All dogs must remain on leash. No outside alcohol or coolers permitted. Free event with your regular park gate admission.

Yappy Hour: Rawberry Jam

Thursday, Sept. 19, 4-8 p.m.

James Island County Park dog park

This is a free event. Bring your dog and join us after work in the dog park for live music by Rawberry Jam and beverages available for purchase. No pre-registration is required. Simply pay the gate admission upon arrival. Free with regular park gate admission.

Moonlight Mixer

Friday, Sept. 20, 7-11 p.m.

Folly Beach Fishing Pier

Dance the night away as DJ Jim Bowers plays all of the hottest oldies and beach music classics. Beverages, food, and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets are limited; advance purchase is recommended. No refunds or exchanges. Photo ID required to gain entry into the event. Participants ages 15 and under can register for this course, but must be accompanied by a registered and paid adult chaperone. Fee: $10/$8 CCR Discount/$10 on site if still available; season passes available.

Folly Pier Fishing Tournament

Saturday, Sept. 21, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Folly Beach Fishing Pier

Join park staff for this end-of-season tournament! Prizes are awarded for the three largest fish catches and for the largest catch in the King Mackerel category. Pre-registration is available online through Sept. 19 at www.ccprc.com. On-site registration will begin at 6 a.m. Prizes awarded at 4:15 p.m. Tournaments held rain or shine. An adult chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. For additional information, call 843-588-3474. Carolina Green Fair

Sunday, Sept. 22, noon–6 p.m.

James Island County Park

The Carolina Green Fair features conservation education through fun and inventive demonstrations, interactive play and music and education shared by experts in their field. Come celebrate “being green” while enjoying beer, food, music and artisans from the Lowcountry. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No coolers, outside food or beverages permitted.
