Cancer Society teams up with local salons for a Cut-a-Thon
On Friday, Sept. 27 from 2 to 7 p.m., The American Cancer Society and local salons will host a Cut-a-Thon, a fundraiser to support the American Cancer Society’s Survivors Suite. The Survivors Suite provides free wigs, scarves, turbans and information for patients who are going through cancer treatments. “The survivor’s suite is one of the services the American Cancer Society offers cancer patients who are going through treatment. It serves as a place for patients to come relax, try on wigs and receive one-on-one help with their wigs. We are very proud to offer this service to the Lowcountry” says Fronde Merchant, Mission Delivery Manager of the American Cancer Society.
Vanity Salon, Attitudes Salon and The Healing Boutique and Paul Mitchell The School of Charleston at Roper St. Francis Cancer Center will be offering salon services to raise money to purchase new wigs. “Since cancer patients’ immune systems are so depleted from their treatments, we need to offer the most sterile products available, which means new, unused wigs. Wigs are very expensive, so with the help from these local salons and their customers, we will be able to purchase new wigs for our patients,” says Fronde Merchant, Mission Delivery Manager of the American Cancer Society.
