Justin Michael Hannah, 29, of Plainfield Avenue, Goose Creek, is behind bars with a list of charges after an Aug. 26 armed robbery, according to a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Hannah was booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center at 8:46 p.m. that day and charged with two counts of armed robbery, possession of schedule one and schedule two narcotics (LSD), possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, the unlawful carrying of a handgun, unlawful carrying of a pistol and simple possession of marijuana, according to the jail’s website.
His bond for all the charges totals $95,620, according to the jail’s website.
At about 12:45 p.m. the female victim was sitting in a car in a parking space at 5000 Harbour Lake Drive in front of Building A, No. 17 – 32 talking to her husband as she was about to hand him $9 for lunch money. The $9 was sitting on her lap, according to the report.
Hannah approached them and asked for a lighter, then a cigarette. As the female victim reached for a cigarette, Hannah lunged through the window in an effort to take the $9 from her lap, according to the report.
The husband grabbed the suspect from the back. When he saw the suspect had a gun he attempted to grab it. The husband and suspect struggled.
The gun was initially pointed at the wife but when the suspect broke loose from the struggle with the husband, the gun was pointed at the husband’s face, according to the report.
Hannah then ran toward a blue or grey SUV type vehicle and departed the scene.
A woman who had just sat down in her vehicle parked in the adjacent row of parking spaces about 50 feet away witnessed the entire incident.
She said after the suspect fled the female victim started her car and attempted to run into the subject to keep him from shooting her husband, according to the report. The witness said the subject then ran toward a grey SUV believed to be Honda and left the scene.
The female victim followed the subject for a short way attempting to find out the suspect vehicle’s tag number, according to the report.
The witness told a deputy she works at a motel off Redbank Road and recognized the suspect as the person staying in Room 208. Deputies obtained the suspect’s name and vehicle information from the motel clerk.
He was not present at the motel, so deputies responded to a Plainfield Drive address. While there, deputies learned the suspect showed up at the motel. Deputies arrived and detained the suspect.
The victims arrived but could not identify the suspect. The witness responded and positively identified Hannah as the suspect who pulled the gun on the female victim, according to the report.
Another subject, a 59-year-old black male from Ladson, said he and Hannah left the motel that morning at 10:30 and went to Sullivan’s Island. Both parties then drove to a pawn shop in Goose Creek to pawn a DVD player, according to the report.
Hannah departed the pawn shop leaving the other male subject to complete the paperwork for the pawned item. When Hannah returned to the pawn shop about 45 minutes later he had a white woman with him. All subjects departed and went to Northwoods Mall, according to the report.
The subject’s vehicle was listed as a 2004 Ford Escape. Search warrants were served on the vehicle and the motel room.
