Krewe of Charleston names new board

The Krewe of Charleston is proud to announce the newly-elected board of directors for the 2014 Mardi Gras Season. Organized in 2009, the krewe will be celebrating its fifth anniversary.

The krewe was established to bring the merriment and joy of Mardi Gras season typically celebrated in Gulf Coast State cities such as Mobile, Ala. or New Orleans, La. Charleston is fast becoming the next major destination for Mardi Gras.

Pageantry, music, food and dance are all part of this elaborate event and the Krewe of Charleston has been fortunate to entertain thousands of revelers through the years.

Membership in this organization has grown since the inception of the krewe and has enjoyed great press both locally and nationally.

Serving on the board of directors are president, Charlie James, popular radio personality, Kristen Noland, LSU graduate and veterinarian will serve as vice president. Sheila Kern, celebrated artist and world traveler, will serve as treasurer. New Orleans native and resident of Charleston, Sonia Errthum is membership director and secretary.

A new position, ambassador to royalty, was created this year. Though honorary, the ambassador will assist the king and queen with their duties such as appearances, costumes and events. Fran Grossman will fill this position. Grossman is a founding member and native of New Orleans. The Grossman Family owns and operates The Black Bean Co.

Local Cajun chef Donnie Bulliard will remain as captain of the krewe. “We are now receiving congratulatory letters from other krewes in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Travel agents in Louisiana are starting to package the excursion to Charleston for Mardi Gras. This comes off of the heels of a lot of hard work, dedication and loyal members,” Bulliard said.
