After losing 35-0 to 3A power Hanahan this past Friday night, the Bishop England football team is 0-2 for the first time since 2010. That season, the Battling Bishops also started with losses to West Ashley and Hanahan.

Bishop England hopes the similarities end there. The 2010 Bishops finished 5-6 with a first-round playoff exit.

Bishop England (0-2) managed just 147 yards of total offense – 109 rushing yards and 38 passing yards. Hanahan running back Quan Wade scored three touchdowns in the first half and rushed for 102 yards.

For the Bishops, Nick Shiver totaled 90 yards on seven carries, including a 61-yard run. Defensively, Reed Fosberry made eight solo tackles and seven assists. Younger brother Lawton Fosberry had 10 solo and one assist. Sophomore Ross Miller added seven solo and three assists. In addition to his offensive numbers, Shiver also had an interception.

In the second half, there wasn’t much offense. The Hawks recovered two fumbles for touchdowns in the third quarter – of 66 and 22 yards.

Both teams failed to score in the fourth quarter. After being outscored by a combined 63-6 by 4A West Ashley and 3A Hanahan, Bishop England looks to break into the win column Friday at SCISA 3A Porter-Gaud.

Porter-Gaud was defeated by SCISA 2A Palmetto Christian in the season opener, in a game in which the Cyclones allowed 62 points. Since that game, Porter-Gaud beat a couple of region opponents 41-0 and 16-13.
