SHE welcomes HGTV design star Yip to town

  • Saturday, September 14, 2013

SHE, The Ultimate Girls’ Weekend, presented by BI-LO and sponsored by Trident Health, is set for Sept. 27-29 at the Charleston Area Convention Center. The three-day affair will be brimming with vendors, celebs and local leaders in fashion, beauty, cooking, crafts and healthy living.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, SHE welcomes special celebrity guest, HGTV Star, Vern Yip. Attendees will learn how to “feather their nest” with affordable elegance as Vern shares his expertise on home design and decorating. Vern’s presentation “2013 Home Décor Design Trends and Incorporating Them Affordably” will be held on the STYLE Stage at 4 p.m.

With a television career spanning more than 13 years, Vern Yip has knocked down walls and made over countless homes and restaurants during his four seasons on TLC’s Trading Spaces, on NBC’s Home Intervention and for the past eight years on HGTV.

Yip runs his own design company in Atlanta, Vern Yip Designs and his vast array of design tips can be found on-line at www.vernyip.com, Facebook (VernYipDesigns) and Twitter (@vernyipdesigns). He has an undergraduate education from The University of Virginia and an M.B.A. and Master of Architecture from The Georgia Institute of Technology. His creations and room transformations range in a budget from the notoriously frugal, showcased on television, to eight-figured projects for high-end clients nationwide including special event design for one of 2006’s highest profile Oscar parties. Regardless of the budget, Yip’s design calling card is his attention to detail married with precise, clean-lined interiors balanced with a sense of warmth. Many elements of his creations and eclectic style demonstrate an influence from childhood travels throughout Asia, Latin America and Europe. His award-winning work has a distinct flair that reflects his expertise as both an architectural and interior designer.

Yip also continues to be involved extensively in non-profit work and has served as honorary chair for Eleven the Event, the 2009 fund raiser for The Ulman Cancer Fund, where he established the Vera Yip Memorial Scholarship (after his mother) and is now working closely with UNICEF as a U.S. Global Ambassador to help raise awareness of the needs of children around the world.

In addition to Vern Yip, SHE is also excited to welcome Elise Testone, who will perform during the SHE Indulges Opening Night Party, Friday at 6:30 p.m. Terry Haas, known for her recurring role on HGTV’s hit show “Design to Sell,” whose presentation “Giving Your House The Style That Will Make Every Buyer Want It” will be on the STYLE Stage on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., James Beard Award Winner, Cynthia Graubart, will appear in SHE’s CRAVE area Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. to share tips and tricks from her book “Slow Cooking for Two,” and Lisa Berger from Stacy London’s company Style for Hire, who will offer complimentary image and fashion consultations throughout the weekend in the SHE Style Lounge.
