Mount Pleasant standout swimmer Megan Kingsley was selected to the USA Swimming 2013-14 national women’s team. Kingsley, who is committed to the University of Georgia, is slotted at the 200 fly event.
Among the 17 year old’s USA Swimming teammates are world champions Missy Franklin, Matt Grevers, Katie Ledecky and Ryan Lochte. Kingsley won a bronze medal at the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Games.
The Wando boys and girls swimming teams both won a meet at Park West last week against rival James Island and region opponent West Ashley.
The boys won by a large margin: 143 points to James Island’s 67 and West Ashley’s 37. On the girls end, it was a narrower victory: 116 points to James Island’s 101 and West Ashley’s 47.
Porter-Gaud sophomore volleyball standout Gracie Mogul was named to the 2013 Under Armour High School All-America Phenom List, which is compiled by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Phenom List includes high school freshman, sophomores and juniors. In order to get noticed, the selected players had to have previously received some type of recognition, like an all-state team or MaxPreps Player of the Week.
Players’ volleyball coaches must also be active AVCA members.
The Palmetto Christian volleyball team split a pair of matches last week. The Eagles defeated Dorchester Academy, 3-0, last Tuesday. The Eagles won the matches: 25-15, 25-6, 25-16.
Two days later, Palmetto Christian (2-1) lost to Holly Hill Academy, 3-1. The Eagles won the second game. Palmetto Christian’s Tuesday night match against Calhoun Academy was completed after press time. All three matches were against region opponents.
The Wando girls golf team narrowly lost to Pinewood Prep last week. The match was held at Charleston National.
A day after Colleton County ended its losing streak of 36 games, the Lincoln football team ended its 48-game losing streak with a victory over Creek Bridge. The Yellow Jackets (1-3) won 32-22 in Marion.
Lincoln aims for two in a row this week at Latta (2-2).
