Cario seventh graders learned about the Columbian Exchange and the foods associated with it. The Columbian Exchange is the widespread exchange of people, food, disease, ideas and culture across the Atlantic Ocean started by Columbus’ voyages to the New World. As a culminating activity after studying this unit, students brought in more than 400 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables that they donated to the East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) program here in Mount Pleasant.
