‘Wine down’ and enjoy a new parkland

  • Friday, September 20, 2013

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission introduces a new way to enjoy one of its beautiful new park properties – Wine Down Wednesday at Old Towne Creek County Park.

Scenic Old Towne Creek County Park is not yet regularly open to the public, but on select dates this October, it will be. Lowcountry residents are invited to experience the beauty of this property during Wine Down Wednesday. Guests will enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music while they explore this hidden gem located in West Ashley.

Wine Down Wednesday will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 2, 16 and 30. Admission is $15, which includes the cost of wine, snacks and a commemorative wine glass.

Old Towne Creek County Park, formerly Ashem Farm, was home to Charleston preservationist Emily Ravenel Farrrow and her St. Andrews Riding Academy. Located in West Ashley, the 67-acre estate is dotted with open fields mixed among groves of Live Oaks. Be inspired by the legacy of the Lowcountry’s nature and history with views from the park of South Carolina’s first English settlement at Charles Towne Landing, and the winding of Old Towne Creek through the salt marsh.

Currently, Old Towne Creek County Park is only open for special event purposes and private rentals, but along with several other property holdings throughout the Lowcountry, it will one day become a county park available for regular use. Wine Down Wednesday is a great opportunity for the general public to get a sneak peek of their future park.

Wine Down Wednesday is brought to you by Manny’s and your Charleston County Parks. For more information, visit www.ccprc.com or call 843-795-4386.
