Sawyer Thompson intercepted two passes, including returning one for a touchdown, to lead the Heather Bosse State Farm Raiders to a 8-0 triumph over the Dick’s Sporting Goods Seahawks in MPRD Mite Football (10-11 year olds).
The defensive struggle appeared to be headed to halftime scoreless until Thompson stepped in front of a pass and raced 56 yards down the sideline and into the end zone with 31 seconds left in the second quarter.
The Seahawks offense tried to mount a comeback behind Sullivan Clair, Lachlan Headrick, Julien Jenkins and Drew Owens, but the Raiders’ Dillon McCarthy and Sam Buchanan both ended drives with interceptions.
With quarterback Michael Long managing the game well and behind the strong running of Zaire Coker and Eddie Gubinski, the Raiders were able to run out the clock and keep Coach Long and the Raiders undefeated this season at 3-0. The tough loss dropped Coach Clair and the Seahawks to 0-2.
