Ando, of Hobcaw Yacht Club and Prime Team, defeated a field of 137 sailors from 12 states and the Cayman Islands.

High School

The Academic Magnet sailing team won the North Points 1 Regatta in Charleston, Sept. 14. Lake Norman finished 15 points of Academic Magnet to grab second. Wando came in third.

Porter-Gaud claimed sixth place, Ashley Hall finished seventh and Bishop England earned ninth in the 19-team regatta. Teams sail two-man 420 sail boats.

Volleyball

Bishop England

The Bishop England volleyball team made short work of both the North Charleston and Academic Magnet teams last Tuesday night.

The Battling Bishops beat North Charleston, 2-0 (25-3, 25-4), and Academic Magnet, 2-0 (25-12, 25-9).

Wando

During the Dorman Tournament of Champions, the Wando volleyball team defeated Dorman, Charlotte Country Day, Pickens, Bishop England, Mussleman and St. Joseph's, but lost in the title match to Hillcrest.

Wando moved its record to 22-4. Warriors' Natalie Tucker, Brittany Vallez and Megan Morris were all named to the all-tournament team. Wando traveled to Goose Creek to play First Baptist on Tuesday. The match was completed after press time.Earlier last week, the Warriors beat Beaufort and Ashley Ridge in straight sets.

Palmetto Christian

The Palmetto Christian volleyball team rebounded from a two-match losing streak to defeat the Lowcountry Gators, 3-0, this past Thursday night.

The Eagles improved their record to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in region play.

Their Tuesday night region game at South Aiken Baptist was completed after press time.

Golf

Ansley Vaughan, who graduated this past spring from Wando, is already making her presence felt on the Converse College women's golf team.

During Converse's season debut – and Vaughan's first collegiate match – the Valkyries finished third overall at the Anderson University Invitational.

Vaughan tied for second overall after shooting a pair of 77s in the two-round tournament. It was the best score for Converse and earned her recognition on the all-tournament team.

Football

Despite facing total knee construction surgery and missing his sophomore season, Porter-Gaud running back Allen Walters received good news.

New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas, a former collegiate All-American at the University of Southern California, invited Walters to be his guest for the Giants game in Charlotte this past Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Walters was having an impressive season but suffered a season-ending knee injury in the fourth quarter two weeks ago against Heathwood Hall. Walters racked up 147 yards on 22 carries.

According to a news release from Porter-Gaud, “a family member in the industry” contacted Thomas, who endured two major knee reconstruction surgeries.

Thomas reached out to Walters and asked to meet him in Charlotte. Thomas also arranged for Giants team doctors to examine Walters and his injury. Walters stayed at the Giants team hotel on Saturday night.
