New events added to Taste of Charleston

There will be some new events associated with the Southern Living Taste of Charleston this year.

Taste: Iron Chef Competition puts Men vs. Women

General Admission Seating Only

Taste: Iron Chef will take place Saturday, Sept. 28 at Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus in downtown Charleston. The event will feature two teams of local chefs competing in a head to head battle. Each team is challenged to make three to five dishes featuring the “secret ingredient” which will be unveiled at the beginning of the competition. For the first time this year the theme is Men vs. Women. The teams consist of Chef Drew Hedlund of Fleet Landing and Chef Brandon Buck of Middleton Place against Chef Jael Allen of Mosaic and Chef Eva Broyles of Eli’s Table. Mickey Bakst of Charleston Grill and Ben Berryhill of Red Drum will emcee the event. General Admission tickets are still available, but amphitheatre seating is sold out. Taste: Sweet & Southern Update

Taste: Sweet & Southern will take place on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Cottage on the Creek on Historic Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. The event will feature music from singer/songwriter Gigi Dover and Big Love. Attendees will enjoy Lowcountry Cuisine served by a variety of local caterers such as Food for the Southern Soul and Charleston Bay Gourmet. Butler Marine will be providing moonlit harbor cruises throughout the evening. Tickets are available now at CharlestonRestaurantAssociation.com for $50 or at the door the night of for $60.

Several new restaurants have been added to Taste Dine Around.

Taste: Dine Around will be held at participating restaurants throughout the Charleston area on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28. The restaurants will feature a three course menu paired with a specialty/craft beer. Participating restaurants include:

82 Queen, Anson Restaurant, AW Shucks, Basil (Mount Pleasant Downtown), Bocci’s Italian Restaurant, Blu Restaurant and Bar, Burton’s Grill, Dixie Supply Bakery & Café, Holy City Hospitality Group, Home Team BBQ, Lowcountry Bistro, Mosaic Café, Sea Island Grill at Wild Dunes Resort, Red’s Ice House, Steel City Pizza and Swamp Fox Restaurants. No tickets required to attend this event, but reservations are recommended.
