Tyler Ragsdale won the third installment of this year’s Player of the Week contest sponsored by Tony Pope State Farm Insurance of Mount Pleasant between Palmetto Christian, Wando and Bishop England football players.

Ragsdale, a junior linebacker with Wando, was reporter Tyler Heffernan’s pick after he recorded seven solo tackles, three assists, a fumble recovery, two pass deflections and blocked a punt that was recovered for a touchdown against Colleton County, Sept. 13.

Ragsdale has emerged this season as Wando’s leader in tackles with 31 solo and nine assists. He also has two sacks, seven quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and 11 ball deflections.

With the win, Wando reduced the Palmetto Christian series lead to 2-1 in this friendly contest rivalry. It was the largest voter turnout yet this season with more than 400 votes placed.

This past week’s contest did not include Palmetto Christian players, because the Eagles’ game against Trinity-Byrnes was canceled.

Every week during the high school football season, you vote among six players – two from each of the three East Cooper programs – for who you think is most deserving of the title of Player of the Week.

The voting process is done entirely online at www.MoultrieNews.com/POTW. Reporter Tyler Heffernan chooses one player from each of the three teams and each team’s respective head coach picks one player from his team.

You can only vote once. Every Wednesday, the newest set of nominations are announced in our print editions and on our website. Voting is open until the following Monday at noon, which leaves about five days for voting.

Tyler’s BE pick

Nick Shiver: The senior running back had 135 yards on six carries, including two touchdowns. As a defensive back, he also recorded a tackle against Academic Magnet.

BE coach John Cantey’s pick

David Aller: The senior running back had 85 yards on five carries, including a touchdown, during the Battling Bishops’ 48-21 win over the Raptors.

Tyler’s PCA pick
