Get ready for IOP Connector Run/Walk for the Child, Oct. 5
Registration is now open for the Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk 5K/10K for the Child presented by Waggoner Law Firm.
The race will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 and is in its 21st year. It begins on Palm Boulevard and ends on JC Long Boulevard after weaving through picturesque views of marsh, palm trees and the edge of Mount Pleasant.
Back for another year is the “Plane Jane” band for an after party. A beer garden will also be available for those 21 years old and older, in addition to various vendor booths and children’s entertainment. The race benefits several charities dedicated to treating and preventing child abuse and neglect.
Those charities are Windwood Farms, Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Parents Anonymous, Carolina Youth Development, Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, HALOS and Darkness to Light. The IOP Connector Run and Walk is the largest annual fundraiser both the Isle of Palms and Mount Pleasant Exchange Clubs.
Last year, more than 1,300 walkers and runners participated. This year, organizers hope to exceed 1,700. Registration can be completed online at www.ioprun.com. Volunteers are needed, and if interested, can sign up to help at www.ioprun.com/volunteer.
Online registration ends Sept. 30, but late registration can be completed during packet pick-up times, as well as the morning of the race between 6-7 a.m.
Packet pick-up will be at the Isle of Palms Exchange Club, which is located at 201 Palm Boulevard on Thursday, Oct. 3 and Friday, Oct. 4 from noon to 8 p.m.
Late packet pick-up and registration on race day will be at the Isle of Palms public safety building at 30 JC Long Boulevard. The Isle of Palms Connector closes at 7 a.m., Oct. 5.
“We are truly excited about the commitment of this community to help prevent child abuse in the Lowcountry through volunteerism, donations, healthy habits and exercise,” Mount Pleasant Exchange Club President-Elect Sheryl Bidwell said in a news release.
“Over the last 20 years, the Charleston community has helped the Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child raise over $750,000 for the prevention of child abuse. Help us again by registering to volunteer or race at this years event on Oct. 5.”
