CCSD Parent University opens Sept. 28

Now entering its fifth year, Parent University will hold the opening session for the 2013 – 2014 school year - Vision 2016: The Work Continues. This special event will feature several workshops and speakers for parents and information will be shared with parents regarding the district’s progress towards its Vision 2016 goals.

When: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) Saturday, Sept. 28

Where: Stall High School (3625 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418)

What: Among the highlights scheduled for the day:

• Charleston County School District’s Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Lisa Herring, will be the featured keynote speaker for the day. Dr. Herring will provide an update of the Vision 2016 plan, the district’s accomplishments, and what parents can do to help their child achieve the goals outlined in Vision 2016.

• Understanding ADD/ADHD: A Parent’s Guide will be presented by Mr. Chad Weaver, CCSD Psychologist. This workshop will increase parent awareness and understanding of ADD/ADHD while providing strategies to support their child; partnering with the school and other related community programs to ensure their child’s academic success.

• Common Core 101 for Parents presented by Carol Leopold, Director of Professional Development. This workshop will provide parents with a clear understanding of what students are expected to learn so that they can thrive and succeed in college, career, and compete in our 21st century global economy.

A resource fair will also be provided to give parents the opportunity to access information and resources from many of our community partners and district departments. In addition, there will be a children’s program for children ages 4-12. The event is free and open to any CCSD parent.
