With the support of several major sponsors, the Charleston Men’s Chorus (CMC) has established the John J. Kerr Memorial Scholarship in honor of its recently deceased member and past president, John Kerr. Kerr was a founding member of the chorus, a two-term president on its board of directors, fundraising chairperson for numerous years and best likely known as the humorous emcee, with the distinct country drawl cultivated in Dillon, at the chorus’ concerts.
The endowed scholarship fund is intended to provide two annual $3,000 scholarships to deserving male students majoring in either vocal performance or choral conducting at Charleston Southern University and the College of Charleston. CMC Past President Josh Stokes said, “John was always a strong proponent of the CMC’s scholarship endeavors, and I believe he would be both humbled by and proud of the establishment of the Kerr Memorial Scholarship.”
The chorus is now in the process of accepting donations from others to fund the Kerr Memorial Scholarship. For those interested in contributing to the Kerr Memorial Scholarship, donations may be given online at www.cmchorus.com or mailed to:
