IOP Exchange Club holds meeting about consolidated dispatch 9-1-1

  • Monday, September 30, 2013

The Isle of Palms Exchange Club has invited representatives from Charleston County’s Consolidated Dispatch 9-1-1 Center (CCCD 9-1-1) to speak to Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island residents about the Oct. 1 transition to CCCD 9-1-1. The meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Exchange Club at 201 Palm Boulevard, Isle of Palms and is open all residents of both islands regardless of whether they belong to the Exchange Club.

Months of preparation have gone into ensuring the smoothest transition possible, and the city and the town encourage residents to educate themselves and ask questions at this meeting. Some operational differences exist in the CCCD 9-1-1, specifically telecommuications duties are split between a “call-taker” and a “dispatcher.” This provides the opportunity for increased focus but may create a different experience for the person placing the call for emergency services. The Exchange Club meeting is an opportunity to examine the changes and benefits.
