On Saturday, Oct. 5, Mount Pleasant will once again welcome marching bands from around the Lowcountry and the southeast for the annual Lowcountry Invitational (LCI) Marching Festival to be held at the Wando High School Stadium on Mathis Ferry Road. The Bands of Wando Boosters sponsors this annual event that provides a national-level music education and adjudication experience for more than 1,500 musicians and visual artists. These young performance artists will be judged by some of the best music and visual educators in North America, and spectators will be entertained by music, pageantry and choreography as 14 bands are scheduled to compete.

Of course, concessions will be plentiful including the standard fare of hotdogs and hamburgers, but also featuring food from local restaurants offered at reasonable prices for the entire family to enjoy. Other areas of interest include “Vicki’s Village,” which will offer marching-band themed items such as jewelry and T-shirts. Another guaranteed popular area will be “The Fastest Drummer” competition. Plenty of directed parking will be available and assistance as well for those who need it.

Following the competition, eight-time 5A State Marching Band Champions, the Wando High School Marching Band, will perform in exhibition mode this year’s show entitled, “It’s All WRIGHT.””

The 2013 LCI coordinators are Donovan and Vickie Powell who are also the president-elect(s) for the Bands of Wando Boosters. Scott Rush is the Director of the Bands of Wando.
