Since 1964 the Moultrie News has been the East Cooper’s community newspaper, giving readers everything they need to know about the goings-on in their communities. We couldn’t have made it this far without the loyalty of those readers and our advertisers. And in gratitude for everyone’s support, the newspaper is celebrating our 50th anniversary next year with events and celebrations for the whole family to enjoy.
We hope you’ll join us in commemorating this milestone.
The Moultrie News is excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Mount Pleasant, Awendaw Green and Boone Hall to host three very different and exciting events in 2014.
First up is the Awendaw Green music festival, on Sunday, April 27 from 3 to 8 p.m., with great local music and food trucks.
A day of fun and family is planned, including:
• Best chicken wing contest – a party wouldn’t be complete without great food.
• Local school bands and choirs providing entertainment to start off the day.
• Games for kids including corn hole and hoola hoop contests.
• Face painting, a coloring contest, etc.
• Fun into the evening with a great line up of local musicians.
• Food provided by some of Charleston’s best food trucks.
We’ve also planned a grand event at Boone Hall. Live in concert will be Plane Jane and The East Coast Party Band on the back lawn Sunday, June 8 from 3 to 10 p.m.
To round out the year we’ve planned a Community Day on the Islands which is scheduled in Stith Park on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 3 to 7 p.m. There is going to be something for everyone to enjoy, with lots of great activities from shag dancing lessons and a dance contest, entertaining games, contests and prizes for kids, to the best food in the Lowcountry. We’re also excited about the opportunity this event will provide for us to raise funds for our local non-profit community. We’re planning some great contests between municipal staffs and public safety teams to spark some friendly island competition and help those in need. This is an even you won’t want to miss.
Come to one or all three.
We have compiled our archives and will also bring you top news that happened over the years of the Moultrie News’ coverage as well as a commemorative website with old photos, videos, comments from our former publisher and owner Charlie Diggle, the newspaper’s history and event details with the availability to purchase tickets.
Our first video, announcing the celebrations has been released and we can’t wait to share it with you. Go to the link below for a sneak peak of the fun we have in store for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFNJ8D0L2UE&feature=youtu.be.
