Road-tested Palmetto Christian continues its roll, takes out Colleton Prep, 48-26

The Palmetto Christian football team wrapped up a lengthy two-game travel schedule with back-to-back Friday trips covering more than 350 miles. This past Friday, the Eagles beat Colleton Prep, 48-26. The week before, the Eagles knocked off region foe Hilton Head Prep, 56-50.

Senior quarterback J.T. Waters continued to produce absurd offensive numbers. Waters had seven total touchdowns (four rushing, three passing), 280 rushing yards and 214 passing yards. With senior tailback Ryan Roe sidelined with an illness, freshman Davis Diel stepped in for 11 carries and 58 yards. Waters was also battling sickness and a thigh injury.

Waters spread the ball around on offense, as five different receivers recorded catches and four of them had at least four receptions.

Defensively, a host of Eagles forced and recovered three fumbles. On special teams, Palmetto Christian continued its consistent play. One Eagles assistant coach called the performance “the most complete game we have played all year.”

Junior Martinez Finney had his best game yet with five receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver. He also had six tackles as a linebacker, and he provided sure hands during kickoffs. Sophomore Joseph Sweatt led the team in tackles with seven. It was Palmetto Christian’s first win in Walterboro and only the second time the Eagles had beaten Colleton Prep.

With just a six-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, Palmetto Christian’s defense stepped up to win the final period 12-0.

The Eagles host Bible Baptist (3-2) on Friday for their homecoming game at Park West Field. They have lost their last five meetings against Bible Baptist.
