Safety improvements planned at Mount Pleasant Regional Airport

The runway at Mount Pleasant Regional Airport will be closed for five days in October so that safety improvements required by the Federal Aviation Administration can be performed.

The Runway Safety Area Improvements Project is scheduled to begin on or about Oct. 14, depending on the weather.

Work will entail grading and reseeding the grassy shoulder at the end of the runway as required by updated FAA safety criteria. Work is expected to take five days to complete. In the event of bad weather, work may be delayed or rescheduled.

Mount Pleasant Regional Airport, also known as Faison Field, is a public airport located nine miles northeast of the central business district of Mount Pleasant. It is owned by the Charleston County Aviation Authority. It was formerly the East Cooper Airport.

Mount Pleasant Regional Airport covers an area of 300 acres (120 ha) which contains one asphalt paved runway.

Mount Pleasant Regional Airport is located at 700 Faison Rd. Call 843-884-8837 for more information.
