Legislature accepting applications for state boards

The Joint Legislative Committee to screen candidates for college and university boards of trustees is accepting letters of intent to begin screening and qualifying candidates for the following seats:

• Francis Marion University

at-large - seat 9 - expires 2016

• South Carolina State University

5th Congressional district - expires 2017

• Old Exchange Building Commission

Two at-large seats - expires 2018

It is required by law that any person who wishes to offer as a candidate for a board position must notify the Legislative Screening Committee in writing of his/her intent to offer for the specific seat. For the South Carolina State University seat all applicants must reside in the district for which they are applying.

The deadline for receiving letters of intent is Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.

Letters of Intent should be addressed to: Senator Harvey S. Peeler, Jr., Chairman, Joint Legislative Committee to Screen Candidates for College and University Boards of Trustees, Post Office Box 142, Columbia, South Carolina 29201.

The letter of intent may be mailed or hand delivered to the Committee Office - 213 Gressette Building in Columbia or the letter of intent may be scanned and emailed to the Committee Staff - marthacasto@scsenate.gov. Questions should

be addressed to either Martha Casto or Julie Price at 803-212-6430 or by email to marthacasto@scsenate.gov or julieprice@scsenate.gov.

Upon receipt of the letter, the application forms will be sent to the prospective candidate to be completed and submitted no later than Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
